We’ve got a new 2kW PA system, and are using it for the first time to do sound for Dr Butler’s Hatstand Medicine at a beer festival in central Manchester this Saturday..
In the City festival was fantastic this year. There was a real buzz about the events, centring on the festival’s Twitter feed.
In the City is traditionally a festival where next year’s acts break – and there were some really great acts I stumbled on this year, without having really seen or heard of them before.
Highlights were the Kill van Kulls, who I’d heard on All FM a few times, but had never seen live. Also enjoyed Crystal Castles, D/R/U/G/S and Mount Kimble — all acts which have a dancier vibe.
There were some gems at the Band on the Wall, including Ruth Theodore, Seerauber Jenny and Tim and Sam — all introduced by BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson.
I did the sound engineering and PA hire for a really interesting gig at the John Ryland’s library on Saturday. It was a great venue to be doing sound in — beautiful, if slightly strange, acoustics, and an amazing space.
It was an acoustic gig, with three North West-based acts – Becca Williams, JP Cooper, and Karima Francis.
There should be more gigs at the library in future – I’ll keep you posted!
